When Francis Egly took over the family business from his father Michel in 1980 at a very young age, he immediately adopted traditional, pesticide-free methods.
His many trips to Burgundy and tastings there were a huge inspiration to him, making Francis one of the new wave of winemakers in the 1990s to work the wines in barrels and with long cellar aging.
The estate comprises over 12 hectares of vineyards in the Montagne de Reims and Vallée de la Marne, of which about three quarters are planted with Pinot Noir. Chardonnay and Meunier make up the smaller part. Some of its parcels are old vines in Grand Cru areas such as Ambonnay, Bouzy and Verzy.
His two children slowly take over the management of the estate from their father.
