In 1956, Daniel Taillet planted his first Meunier vines on the 'Le Bois de Binson' vineyard around Montigny, in the heart of the Marne Valley. Today his son Eric, who took over Maison Taillet in 1995, farms this excellent lieu-dit.

Eric Taillet is a great lover of Meunier, the grape that does well in the Marne Valley. More than 80% of his 5.5 hectares of vineyards around Baslieux-sous-Châtillon are planted with meunier. To promote the grape that is often somewhat overshadowed by chardonnay and pinot noir in Champagne, Taillet founded the Meunier Institute.

In his vineyards, the champagne maker, which produces approximately 55,000 bottles annually, avoids chemical pesticides and explicitly allows ground cover between the vines. Around the vineyard behind the maison, Taillet has planted hundreds of beech hedges to promote biodiversity among the grapes.

Eric Taillet is a perfectionist with a penchant for experimentation. In the cellar he is working on projects that also use grapes such as Pinot Gris and Petit Meslier. Although we initially fell for the fruity accessibility of his wines, the champagnes become more expressive and exciting every year.
