About Bollinger

Bollinger was founded in 1829 by Henri Bollinger. He was born into a family of winegrowers in the village of Aÿ. Henri's grandfather, Nicolas Joseph Bollinger, was a prosperous farmer who owned vines in the vineyards around Aÿ. In 1750, he built a small winery on his estate where he produced crops for his own use and to sell to his neighbors.

Today, Bollinger owns vineyards of over 180 hectares (including a large number of Grands Crus and Premier Crus) and buys grapes. The company is still family owned and is not part of a large group.

Bollinger is known for producing champagnes dominated by pinot noir, vinified mainly in oak barrels, which makes them vinous and gives them a good ageing potential. Another characteristic of Bollinger is that the reserve wines are kept in magnum bottles with cork.
