Romain Hénin
Romain Hénin is definitely the champagne maker who's growing in popularity at the moment. Like many winegrowers of his generation, he graduated at the wineschool of Avize and trained for a couple of years at Henri Giraud, in Ay. Since 2016, he is making his own Champagne from a small 1,2 hectares. But since 2021, he fully owns the family estate, taking over from his talented father, Pascal Hénin. The estate is based in Ay, Vallée de la Marne.
Romain Hénin's priority is to revive the soils and make then as healthy as possible. He came up with the idea of burying his boxer shorts into the vineyards floor and see how fast the microorganisms are eating the cotton. He wants to see how "vivant" is his soils.
