Augustin
The Augustin family consists of strong-willed people. Marc Augustin's great-grandmother started producing her own champagne at the beginning of the twentieth century - at a time when most grape growers sold their harvest to the big houses. In the 1970s, Marc's father was already refusing pesticides in his vineyards northeast of Épernay - at a time when many farmers were embracing the rise of agricultural aids.
Today, Emmanuelle and Marc Augustin work the family vineyards. After a dramatic harvest in 2012, they switched to biodynamics and they take it very seriously: they strive for the smallest possible ecological footprint when producing their champagnes. The moon phases on the biodynamic calendar determine the times when they till the soil, prune the plants and pick the grapes.
